This album is great from top to bottom and deserves 5 stars.however the reason for the 4 stars is the highly cheesy "Altar of Sacrafice". Reign in Blood is every bit as intense and heavy as it was back in 1986. "Raining Blood" and "Angel of Death" are in my opinion the strongest songs on the album. All I have to say is Spinal Tap would be proud of this track. If you feel like hearing some intense metal listen to the rest of the album and avoid "Altar" at all costs.
Matthew 13:36-43Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
People buy this album not knowing what it is. If star ratings are pretty points; this album gets just one. The only question for someone who bought this and couldn't stand it would be: What the hell were you listening to in the mid eighties.and regarding the satanism ~ please: They are mercenaries; filling a hole.
I purchased this album recently just as a curiosity. The riffing is never stale and the soloing is literally face melting. I don't think it is one of the best ever albums and I don't have enough background in metal to say if it is one of the best ever metal albums, but the experts say so and I really liked it so I'm not going to disagree with them.Every song on the album grabbed me and got my attention.immediately.
My musical tastes tend towards punk and Americana, but I'm always open to suggestions. I really appreciate the fact that they don't let the songs drift off into five minute guitar jams, which for me tend to make the songs dissipate and lose my attention. I had always heard about it and always wondered what the fuss was about.
The interplay between King and Hanneman's guitars is where most of my focus usually ends up. My friends were into Slayer, Metallica, Megadeath and others during the 1980's, but I never saw the appeal so I didn't try. Now I've tried it and I think this album is well worth the purchase price.
In general the songs are short and concise getting right to the point musically and lyrically. The two of them, through this album, have given me a new appreciation for metal guitar and the album it's self has given me am insight into metal that I previously did not have.
I mowed my and trimmed my lawn in under 30 minutes while my neighbor took 58.
